My photo essay is centered around going out for a drive. I took my photos in my driveway, and from the inside of my truck. Driving holds a different meaning for everyone, and the photos allow the viewer to apply their own meaning. For some driving is a fun hobby, and for others it is just a tedious way of commuting. I selected this place because it symbolizes leaving a familiar environment. Leaving your comfort zone is vital to any good adventure. Big red has a lot of sentimental value for me, because it was a gift from my grandfather. The images of my photo essay show the steps leading up to, and actually driving. There are many steps to driving, most of which you never realize. I arranged the photos in chronological order to unify the series. It logically makes sense to arrange the photos this way, as it shows the events how they happened. I took photo 7 from inside of a moving vehicle. The photo showcases several organic and mechanical lines, with telephone wires, road lines, and tree branches. This contrast shows the differing paths of a journey. The road leads the viewers eye in one direction, while the tree branches scatter the viewer’s attention. This symbolizes societal pressures to live the same way as everyone else. On the other hand, the branches offer unlimited paths for the viewer to choose, each completely unique.
